Just in case you’re not quite convinced The Beat Kitchen is the place to be on 1/15/05…Dandy Don from The Polkaholics was kind enough to answer some very pressing questions…

The Locals: How would you describe your music to a yeti whose been living in a phone booth for the last 5 years?

Polkaholics: We search and destroy and polka! By playing polka with a power-trio rock setup (guitar, bass, drums) we aim to fuse the moshpit with the beergarden! Fun for everyone but especially those people, like ourselves, with a demented point of view.

The Locals: I see you have the Polkaholics Theme song on your website. What kind of Reality TV show would your theme song best suit?

Polkaholics: The Pierogi Apprentice. 10 sausage wannabees vie for a chance to be the big kielbasa and join the workforce at Bobak’s Sausage Company on Chicago’s southwest side. A sauerkraut eating contest is the highpoint of the show, with Donald Trumpski and aides Svetlana and Wladziu urging contestants to eat more sauerkraut.

The Locals: Is there a 12 step program for Polkaholics?

Polkaholics: Yes, drink beer and polka dance (repeat 6 times or as often as necessary – the typical patient will require many, many treatments and the thought of a cure is strictly fantasy)

The Locals: Do you have a good recipe for potato pancakes?

Polkaholics: Yes, take the CTA blue line to the Division Street stop. Go up the stairs and proceed to the nearby Podhalanka Restaurant at 1549 West Division St. Order some potato pancakes, play some Li’l Wally on the jukebox, and enjoy.
