A great reason to visit the south side.

Don’t know if you guys have wandered down to Reggies Rock Club yet, but it’s a really cool new music club in Chicago. One of the great things about Reggies is that it’s actually a “rock club”, meaning the purpose of the bar(s) is to deliver the rock, as opposed to a bar that just “has” music. They have 3 venues built into this one joint and actually a pretty awesome menu.

Reggies is also home to “Record Breakers”. BREAKERS has a huge selection of hard to find new and used Vinyl, CD’s, DVD’s, and 45′s (Maybe Kirk can finally find all of those John Oats solo albums he keeps fantasizing about). Tons of T-Shirts, Posters, Hats, Stickers, and assorted memorabilia round out what is considered one of the BEST INDIE ROCK stores in Chicago.

Tonight there is a really cool show going on,chicago punk legend Ben Weasel of Screatching Weasel will be playing a sold out show. The only place you can see Ben Weasel is in the Music Joint bar. Right after our set they will be simulcasting the show on all the screens. Ben is playing at Reggies Rock Club and we’re on the second stage at the Rock Joint.

We’re playing Reggiies on Sat night
I hope you’ll check it out, it’s worth the trip.

Lollapalooza Recap: Emoticon Version

Christy and I headed down to Lollapalooza this weekend. We had a great time just hanging out listening to music for three straight days! Ahhhhhh perfection. Anyway- there are tons of photos up on the Big Picture Project (showmethebigpicture.com).
For those of you who would rather not read all of my blatherings, I’ve put together the abbreviated, emoticon version. It’s just like being there and it’s even better than IMAX:

Lollapalooza Recap: As told by Yvonne and Christy in Emoticons

Lollapalooza Recap: As told by Yvonne in words with letters etc

Devotchka: WAS GREAT. Really enjoyed their set. They look fabulous in black and white and a woman dancing with a tuba is always a good time.

Raconteurs: WERE AMAZING. I have no idea why, but I thought they’d be kind of mellow live, but no, the kicked ass. They were great. I think this was the best show of the weekend. I’m a new fan of Jack White. Wow!

The Whigs: WERE TERRIFIC. Biggest surprise of the weekend. I had heard the name, heard the name, never saw them, and just heard a quick clip online. They had amazing, punk energy, a seriously killer 3 piece sound. Loved em, loved em.

G Love and Special Sauce: SPLOOGED SPECIAL SAUCE ALL OVER THE CROWD. You just can’t go wrong with G. Love. He’s just so damn good at what he does. Even the preppie kids camped out for Kanye all around us had a great time. Smoking their camel cigarrettes badly ( I don’t smoke and I could tell these guys were posers, at least inhale the damn thing if you are going to bludgen the rest of use with it).. wait, back to G Love. Awesome show, great band. Enjoyed it!

Love and Rockets: WERE …..out of tune. Daniel Ash broke 2 strings on his 12 string on one song, then played the whole next song (solo) on that hideously out of tune guitar. It was, ummm, challenging to listen to. “No new tale to tell” fell flat. But the end of their set picked up and was better, and more than that- was really good. They pulled it out. I feel you guys on the rough start…that sucks! Why didnt a guitar tech come out there with an in tune guitar for him? Weird.

Rage Against the Machine. WERE RAGING. The sound kind of sucked where we were. All vocals and not enough guitars. They played well and the crowd got drunk and started fights so I suppose all necessary criteria were met. But I was bummed about the sound.

Nine Inch Nails. KILLED IT. They killed it. They were off the hook. The sound was great, they kicked ass. They havent missed a beat. It was my first time seeing them and it was great.

Electric Touch. Good pop band. The guitar player did a little much of that “here’s my penis sword” guitar pose, but aside from the spinal tap-ian moves from time to time, they put on a pretty good show.

More notable goodnesses- The Black Keys- good show dug em, Flogging Molly- great performers- not my cup of tea, but they put on a great great show.

Freak show side notes (see pictures on showmethebigpicture.com): Drunk man gets penis out and starts fight. Drunk women climbs speaker tower for Rage Against the Machine, Drunk woman in one piece bathing suit dances badly to Rage…
